General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) is a diploma-level nursing program designed to train students in providing comprehensive nursing care to individuals, families, and communities. GNM professionals play a vital role in hospitals and healthcare institutions by assisting doctors and ensuring quality patient care.
GNM is a 3-year diploma course, followed by a 6-month compulsory internship. The program focuses on clinical nursing, midwifery, community health nursing, medical-surgical nursing, pediatric nursing, and mental health nursing.
The GNM curriculum emphasizes both theoretical education and extensive practical training. Students gain hands-on experience in hospitals, clinics, community health centers, and nursing homes, preparing them for real-world healthcare responsibilities.
The candidate must have completed 10+2 or equivalent from a recognized board.
Students from Science, Arts, or Commerce streams are eligible (Science stream preferred by some institutions).
Nationality: Indian Nationals and other eligible categories as per institutional norms.
Minimum age limit: 17 years at the time of admission.
Maximum age limit: Generally 35 years (may vary by state and institution).
Candidates must be medically fit as per nursing council standards.
