Biotechnology Engineering is a multidisciplinary branch of engineering that combines biology, chemistry, genetics, medicine, and engineering principles to develop innovative solutions in healthcare, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, and environmental science. The course focuses on using biological systems and organisms to create products and technologies that improve human life.
Biotechnology Engineering is offered as an undergraduate program (B.Tech / BE) with a duration of 4 years, divided into 8 semesters. The program emphasizes theoretical knowledge, laboratory experimentation, research, and industrial applications of biotechnology.
The curriculum covers subjects such as molecular biology, genetic engineering, biochemistry, microbiology, bioinformatics, cell biology, bioprocess engineering, and biomedical engineering. Students gain hands-on experience through laboratory work, projects, internships, and industrial training.
The candidate must have completed 10+2 or equivalent from a recognized board.
Mandatory subjects: Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics (PCM).
Biology / Biotechnology as an additional subject is preferred by many institutions.
Admission is generally through national or state-level engineering entrance exams (such as JEE Main or equivalent) or merit-based selection, depending on the institute.
Nationality: Indian Nationals, Foreign Nationals, OCIs, PIOs, and NRIs are eligible as per institutional norms.
Minimum aggregate marks:
General category: 45%–50%
Reserved category: Relaxation as per government rules
